Course Information

The aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary skills and qualification, to work in a childcare environment.


The course is structured to provide students with a high standard of training and assessment leading to a recognised qualification. The course also provides students with the opportunity to pursue a QQI Level 6 course in our Centre or to progress on to third level education. Successful completion of the course allows students to work in the childcare sector – working as an AIM worker with a child with additional needs.

Entry Requirements

All candidates are required to have an interest in working with children. To ensure that you are offered a place on a course which is at the right level for you and appropriate to your learning needs all applicants are assessed prior to placement on the course.

This course will be:
Part Time – Morning attendance required.

Work Experience Placement

Work experience is a core element of this programme. Students will be required to complete 120 hours of work experience throughout the course, which they will be required to organise themselves.


This course is funded under BTEI funding. In order to be eligible, applicants must be;

  • An Early School leaver, and/or
  • In receipt of a Social Welfare Payment or
  • Have a GP or Medical Card Students can pay a fee if they are not eligible for funding
  • Signing for Credits


This course takes place in Balbriggan.
